Charity Golf Classic

Get out on the green in September for our Charity Golf Classic! This annual event is always well attended, and a chance to do good, while having a tonne of fun!

Community Service Committee

The Community Service Committee is designed to promote projects that will enhance life in our community.  The club has undertaken a number of such endeavours over the past couple of years with an emphasis on hands on activities.

We have planted trees for future enjoyment and environmental health in Dumfries Park. Club members have also participated in removing the invasive species European Buckthorn and Phragmites from local parks, as well as doing general cleanup in these areas. Cambridge North has also helped sort food for our local Self Help Food Bank.  More recently, we have undertaken a project to restore playground facilities at Bechtel Park in Cambridge Hespeler as part of our vision focused on helping youth in our community.

Superhero Fun Run

This year marks the 31st Annual Rotary Classic Superhero Run, presented by the Cambridge Times.  The three Rotary Clubs in Cambridge who jointly organize the Fun Run do so with the unending assistance and support of the Cambridge Times.

Rotarians have been and continue to be committed to helping KidsAbility raise funds so they can continue their commitment to helping families in the Region with kids who have special needs.

We hope to see you at next year’s event!

Dominican Service Trip

For the past 12 years a group of Rotarians family members and friends have been going to the Dominican Republic to assist the poorest of the poor with housing medical clinics and schools.  Although this is not an official Rotary project it started as a group of Rotarians who were interested in doing service work in another needy country.

The group usually 20 to 22 people raised funds normally $40 to $50 thousand dollars and needed supplies ( 100 pounds per person ) for their annual trip.

We worked through an on site charity called The Samaritian Foundation founded by Elio Madonia. This enabled us to do all our projects easily as they would organize all of the materials and labour to complete the projects.  A very rewarding project and oversight to ensure 100% of the funds were used on the projects.

Polio Plus Program

The PolioPlus Program started in 1988 with Rotary International taking the lead for the complete eradication of the polio virus around the world. When we started there was 200,000 reported cases of polio a year. There were three countries where polio was endemic; Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. Now, almost 30 years later there are only five reported cases of polio worldwide across only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We are so close! Rotarians from our club have vaccinated children under five years old in India and Pakistan for over two decades!

Clean Water Initiatives

The Water and Sanitation (WASH ) projects in Uganda and East Africa provides much needed clean drinking water and sanitation to rural area schools and communities. By providing hygiene in these schools we elevate the health and life expectancy of young girls walking to fetch water across long rough kilometers of dangerous landscape. Now they can focus on education and have a chance to rise above their circumstances.
