My arrival was delayed as a result of a meeting and travel time....I missed the Oh Canada and Invocation.

Reviews from my fellow table mates range from "Rousing to Ecstatic" for the Oh Canada that was lead by Gerry.

"Thankful"  was the first think that came to mind for the Invocation lead by Peter.  Let us all be Thankful for what we have and the friendships that we share.

TABLE TALK
Table talk covered a wide range to topics.

Dean quizzed me about my late arrival...more importantly, he was interested whether the 50/50 ticket that he entrusted to me last week was the winner.  I had to break it to him that I ended up being the beneficiary of the winning ticket.

Mike was explaining the catalyst for relocating his family from the GTA to Waterloo Region.  Cost of housing, day care, travel time, etc.  were on the short list of reasons.  The major reason for the move was to be able to meet great Rotarians and be a part of the best Rotary Club in North Cambridge.

The best conversation , however, revolved around a visit to a restaurant in St. Jacobs by Dave Thomas and his family.  There was confusion surrounding "Chick Peas" and "Chicken".  Dave was hunger and ordered what he thought was the "Chicken Parm".  Upon arrival, the texture of the dish seemed a bit soft.  Further investigation determined that the dish was NOT "Chickn Parm"  but in fact "Chick Pea Parm".  Dave will put on the readers the next time he reads the menu.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

18 members were present for a total representation of 76%.

We were also honored to have guests.

Mike Bernard was accompanied by Don Zoran (previously a member of Cambridge Sunrise) as well as Igor Vojinovich.

Harry Levine was also visiting at the request of Gerry Menezes.  Harry was displaying Rotary wear for us to sport at local events and Bingo.

Our speaker was Steve Harris.

HAPPY-TOONIES

Igor was Happy that he accepted Mikes invitation to lunch.  Igor won the 50/50 and is especially Happy for the arrival of his newborn baby daughter.

Sean was happy and can see clearly now that he successfully underwent Lazik surgery.  Happy Trails (Sledding that is).

Ken was happy and celebrated the fact that it was 30 years ago that the first heart transplant surgery was completed in South Africa.  The first patient did not survive but that provided valuable information for the vast improvements and success rates that have been achieved since then.  Ken should know as he is the recipient of a successful heart transplant.  CONGRATULATIONS Ken.

Dave Kinder shared a bitter sweet Happy Buck.  Julie and Dave arrive back from an amazing trip to South African.  Unfortunately, Dave learned of the passing of his father (age 96) while they were away.  Daves father was a WWII vet as well as a crash survivor.  The life of a truly great man will live on for ever in the hearts of his family and all that knew him.

Ribfest - Very Important

We are preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sunrise Rotary Club to go forward with next summer`s Ribfest but we have several important positions that need to be filled  ... Chair of Fundraising and chair of Marketing. These positions were filled by Sean and Mark Rozad, both of whom will not be continuing in these roles going forward.

These are pivotal roles and need to be filled before the end of November. Please consider helping in these critical roles. Contact Sean, Mark or Dean.

Sean auctioned a set of Rotary drink coasters that were graciously donated by Harry Levine.  Ken Denholm was the successful and jubilant winner.  Thank you Ken for your support.

Sean also attended Grant Training.  He was amazed of the sources and amount of funding that can be tapped at various levels of government in order to assist in achieving projects in our community.  $3.6 million is available at the Federal level as an example.  Sean will be investigating further to learn how we can leverage our fundraising efforts to achieve even larger projects.
GUEST SPEAKER
Steve Harris was our speaker today.  Mike Jennings recently met Steve and took the opportunity to invite to speak to our members.

Steve is the President of Golf Play.

Golf Play is a simulator based golf game that allows fans, and not so fans, of golf to experience the game at many venues world wide.

The trend of golf over the past few years has been in a decline.  Time constraints, family and cost are the biggest contributors of this decline.

Golf simulator design has improved a great deal since early designs.

Golf Play is a venue that will allow golfers, and non-golfers, to experience the game of golf in friendly social environment in less time than a traditional golf game.

The business is located adjacent to Costco (Sportsworld).   Golf Play incorporates food and beverage within the environment.

Instead of a traditional 5-6 hour game of golf, patrons can enjoy a game in as few as 3 hrs while enjoying a bite to eat and drink.

Patrons typically supply their own clubs, however, they do have clubs available for use.

This is a great venue for outings with friends, co-workers, and groups.

Steve would be more than happy to take you on a tour of his facility.
