Cambridge North Bulletin May 22,2019 (May 22, 2019)

OPENING CEREMONIES

On this beautiful spring day President Mike Jennings as he glides smoothly to the end of his Presidency gathered the members of Cambridge North Rotary for another noon meeting. He called on Jody Moore to lead us in the singing of O Canada. Don Daggett read the invocation and we sat down to the meals of our choice.

TABLE TALK

Conversation around the table varied quite a bit. Someone had a boat with a 150 HP motor vs another member with an 8 HP motor Most spent the last weekend opening up their cottages for the spring. The flooding in cottage country fortunately did not affect too many cottages.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

We had 16 members present today. This works out to be 62 % attendance. Traynor Turkiewicz a guest of Steve Witteveen was present and so was our Guest Speaker Laura Muirhead.

HAPPY-TOONIES

Our Guest Speaker made Gerry Menezes a lucky man today. I get the feeling that Gerry has been very lucky at our noon meetings recently.

Gerry was the first to announce his happiness'

Peter Ashenhurst was also very happy, he took his wife out to dinner to celebrate 52 years of marriage.

Pres. Mike and his wife took a trip to New York where they saw the play Network, the movie John Wick 3 and had a dinner at the Grand Central Terminal

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We were reminded about the upcoming meeting at Kingpin Bowling for the 5th Wednesday of May (i.e.., 29th). Look out for the email from Mike Bernard. Bowling will be between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Remember The Superhero Run is fast approaching (Sun June 2). We are still looking for volunteers

The windup Barbecue will be held on June 19. Please note the change in venue. This year it will be held at the home of the Jennings family. This is 549 Mill Park Drive Kitchener. We will get more information in the next few weeks. You should indicate to Larry Olney if you plan to attend.

Ribfest 2019 is well on track however members who will be assisting are being asked to register online ASAP. This is especially necessary if you are Smart Service certified.

Mike Jennings also mentioned to remember the September golf tournament is fast approaching. So, folks should start getting your teams together and tracking down sponsors and prizes.

GUEST SPEAKER

Peter Ashenhurst introduced our Guest Speaker today. Laura Muirhead is the Executive Director of the Child Witness Centre. This is the second time Laura Muirhead has spoken to our club and we have financially supported the Child Witness Centre in the past and again this year.

The Child Witness Centre provides support , education and advocacy through the criminal justice system for children and youth who are, or may become victims or witnesses of abuse or crime, and their families.

This year throughout Waterloo Region Guelph and Wellington County more than 2640 children, youth and families experienced support, education and advocacy through the criminal justice process.

3300 Grade 8 students and their teachers were inspired and empowered through their Youth Symposium.

Today 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys experience abuse before the age of 18.

Laura Muirhead reminded us that if a child or youth indicates or discloses abuse or if you suspect child abuse you should contact the local Family and Children's Service or Children's Aid or the Police Service.

Peter Ashenhurst thanked Laura on behalf of the Club and Pres Mike gonged us back to work wherever we needed to go

NOTES:

The Sgt.‐At‐Arms shall mark the attendance sheet, input Guest Names, Visiting Rotarians and Make‐ups submitted by club members, as well as calculate the meeting percentage. You will also give the invocation when requested by the President. At the end of the meeting make sure the Secretary has the “Secretary’s Copy”.

In addition, the SAA shall also fill in the attendance details on the “Bulletin Editor’s Copy” and make sure the editor receives it by the end of the meeting.

The person who is responsible for any Ticket sales shall enter the cash details on the “Treasurer’s Copy”. They shall also collect the Happy Toonies and enter that information on the same sheet. At the end of the meeting they shall give the treasurer the tally sheet along with the cash in an envelope. There is a supply of banker’s envelopes in the tote box.
